AOL is launching new email aggregation service with features which include:

• Aggregation of Aol, Yahoo, Gmail, Comcast, and other email accounts into one inbox.
• A "Quick Bar" or shortcut bar above the inbox with short email, IM, text, Facebook and Twitter status update capabilities.
• Three inbox views -- "expanded," which allows viewing of the first few lines of each email, "compact" (think traditional), and and the Entourage-like "reading pane."
• Web browser-like tabs for switching between user inbox and messages.
• A Mapquest sidebar adjacent to the email body that automatically detects addresses listed in open emails and offers directions
• A photo sidebar that aggregates photo attachments.
• New optional email domain names  besides "@aol.com", user options will include @ygm ("You've Got Mail"), @games, @wow, and @love.com

Does Apple really own Coverflow and Time Machine Concepts?

Apple Insider recently posted about the patent trial which Apple lost recently. Coverflow and Time Machine are two visually appealing concepts in Mac OS X which Windows doesn't have. Though one can argue that these are not a most usable features. Coverflow doesn't make sense when you have 250 albums and you will swipe through album arts to find an album. Here is the info on patent trial,

Mirror Worlds LLC filed the lawsuit in 2008, alleging that Apple had infringed on patents for creating "streams" of documents sorted by time. According to Bloomberg, a federal jury sided with Mirror Worlds on Friday, although specific details of the ruling were unavailable.

Mirror Worlds' patents were based on research by Yale professor David Gelernter and then-doctoral student Eric Freeman. Gelernter emerged as a prominent computer scientist in the 1980s, eventually developing a time-based method of organizing data that he dubbed "lifestreaming." Patents for the concept date back as early as 1999 (1, 2, 3, 4).
In a March interview, Gelernter told Big Think that though he no longer held the patents for the suit, which he was told is the "largest lawsuit in patent history," he was still upset about not getting credit for the ideas.
Gelernter sees the Mac OS X features Spotlight and Time Machine, as well as the iTunes Cover Flow feature, as being taken from his ideas on "lifestreaming."

I still remember the day when Microsoft Security Essentials was first released in beta through Microsoft Connect.I was pretty excited on that day because before the release ,my friends used to hunt for Anti-virus programs online. They were not willing to pay for the programs, so they usually search for Antivirus programs through Torrents,File sharing sites,etc. The funny part of their activity is they usually get viruses, malware,etc. with the file they download. Usually most of them report me that their PC is slow, it may be due to virus. There was no clear solution at that time for me to offer them. But then came MSE,the star. The number of people asking help from me for PC maintenance reduced folds. MSE was announced as a free alternative to consumers alone. But now Microsoft has announced MSE for SMB’s too. Moblin+Maemo=MeeGo

In a significant development in the convergence of communications and computing, Intel Corporation and Nokia are merging their popular Moblin and Maemo software platforms. This will create a unified Linux-based platform that will run on multiple hardware platforms across a wide range of computing devices, including pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems. Called MeeGo, the open software platform will accelerate industry innovation and time-to-market for a wealth of new Internet-based applications and services and exciting user experiences. MeeGo-based devices from Nokia and other manufacturers are expected to be launched later this year.

This announcement strengthens the Nokia and Intel relationship, and builds on the companies' broad strategic collaboration announced in June 2009. Intel and Nokia now invite participation in MeeGo from existing Maemo and Moblin global communities and across the communications and computing industries.

"Our vision for seamlessly communicating between computing devices from the home, auto, office or your pocket is taking a big step forward today with the introduction of MeeGo," said Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini. Bing Maps team recently demoed their latest creation which blends other Microsoft technologies with Bing maps.What it basically does is pull geo-tagged photos from flickr,construct 3D version of locations using Photosynth and integrate it into Bing maps.Another Cool integration is Worldwide telescope is also integrated into maps.When you are roaming in streets,when you look up you can enjoy the nature’s original beauty.Sound Cool???Check out yourself.Here is the Bing Blog details on it..

“For Exploring, we’ve made a number of updates to the Bing Maps platform to bring this idea to life through high resolution imagery from outer space all the way down to the front door of the bakery. Today at TED, we’re announcing a next step in this evolution of making this imagery more useful and interactive with the release of the technology preview of the Streetside Photos application. This tech preview mines geo-tagged photos from Flickr, and relates them to our Streetside imagery to show images matched to its original spatial context. Why is this cool? You’re now able to see what that club looks like at night (is it really THAT scary?), see if you’re really going to get a good sunset at that B&B you’re looking to book, or check out the crowds on a Saturday morning at Pike Place Market in Seattle or get a view of the same market from decades prior. I tried Google Buzz last week.Thats the mistake i’ve ever done with Google products.It let my gmail contacts exposed.Google privacy team s***s.Later they fixed it.They exposed how many people i’m following and how many follow me.Later they fixed that too.Lots of privacy and half baked items.I didnt know why Google releasing such a pre-matured product to people without their permission.yes its integrated into Gmail,So you should probably use them.

Microsoft Windows Mobile 7 Leaked info

                          Mobile World Congress,Barcelona starts on February-15th.As Microsoft has great announcements this year about its Windows Mobile 7,many rumours has started spreading.Guys at PPCGEEKS have got some interesting info on it.Lets take a look at it.

-At the Mobile World Congress event on February 15th, 2010, Windows Phone 7 will be unveilved, although at this time plans are only to unveil the user interface of the new platform . Specific indepth functionality of the device will most likely not be shown.-The User Interface is based upon codename “METRO”. It will be very similar to the Zune HD User Interface with a complete revamp of the “Start” screen. The UI is “Very Clean”, “Soulful” and “Alive”
-Unfortunately there will be no Flash support at the get go as there was not enough time to implement these features.
-Windows Phone 7 will only support application installation through service based delivery. (i.e Marketplace). Application installation via storage card will not be possible.
- No Multi-Task support. Applications will “Pause” when in the background, however will support notifications via push notifications.
-Marketplace will now support “try before you buy” as well as an API
-No NETCF backwards compatibility. This means the original rumor of no backward compatibility for applications holds to be true. That being said, there are high hopes of porting the NetCF to the newer platform easily.
-Microsoft is confident that devices will be ready by September 2010
-Full Zune Integration
-Windows Mobile Device Center will no longer be used. Zune software to take over syncing via PC.
-OEM Interfaces will not be allowed to run on the device. Say goodbye to Sense UI / SPB Mobile Shell / Point UI / Infinity, etc, etc
-Full XBOX Gaming Integration (Gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, merchandising, etc)

                                   After years of secrecy,WinMo 7 news getting leaked.And one thing for sure is that Microsoft is going to show it to public next month in MWC.Not just in MWC,Microsoft has planned to talk about it in series of events.I’ll list the events below.msftkitchen has lots of information regarding Windows phones.Also future Windows phones will support multi-touch in it,which is good to hear.I’m very eager to see what  Microsoft has developed for years.Especially the User Interface which they have mentioned that,it will not only be evolutionary but something more.

Apple iPad Review

                             You must have some idea about iPad from previous post.Here is my view on Apple iPad.

Name: iPad or iTampon or MaxiPad !!!

Many would have noticed that iTampon was the second trending topic in twitter,even ahead of Apple iPad.The name has raised humour among many people(to mention mostly ladies).This lead to hillarious videos,comments,blogs on the internet.Surely Apple should have chosen better name.

No Multitasking:

According to me,its the biggest setback.How can i stop listening to music while i’m browsing?How can i chat with my friends while working in iWork?

No Cameras:

It doesnt have camera on either front or back side.So no snapping of photos and no video iChat too.This really sucks.

Touch Keyboard:

Apple didnt came up with any new idea.Just the same on-screen keyboard which is already in many tablets.Its really difficult to type in iPad.

No Flash:

Again Apple does the mistake.No Adobe Flash support.So your browsing experience stops in half way.

No HD:

The screen resolution is 1024 x 768.So think of full HD video playback.Even you don't have HDMI port.So sad.

Need of Adapters:        

To tell in a single line,even for USB you need Adapters.Make Apple rich by buying it from them.

Apple Ecosystem:

iPod and iPhone owners must have experienced it before.You have to be in Apple’s environment for everything.Want to transfer,buy  photo,music,etc do it through iTunes.

Apple iPad

                             After years of speculation apple has finally shown their tablet named iPad.Before reviewing the device lets take look at the Apple’s take on this device.In my next post I'll review it.

All of the built-in apps on iPad were designed from the ground up to take advantage of the large Multi-Touch screen. And they work in any orientation. So you can do things with these that apps you can’t do on any other device.

Safari

The large Multi-Touch screen on iPad lets you see web pages as they were meant to be seen — one page at a time. With vibrant color and sharp text. So whether you’re looking at a page in portrait or landscape, you can see everything at a size that’s actually readable. And with iPad, navigating the web has never been easier or more intuitive. Because you use the most natural pointing device there is: your finger. Scroll through a page just by flicking your finger up or down on the screen. Or pinch to zoom in or out on a photo. There’s also a thumbnail view that shows all your open pages in a grid, to let you quickly move from one page to the next.

 

Mail

See and touch your email in ways you never could before. In landscape, you get a split-screen view showing both an opened email and the messages in your inbox. To see the opened email by itself, turn iPad to portrait, and the email automatically rotates and fills the screen. No matter which orientation you use, you can scroll through your mail, compose a new email using the large, onscreen keyboard, or delete messages with nothing more than a tap and a flick. If someone emails you a photo, you can see it right in the message. You can also save the photos in an email directly to the built-in Photos app. And iPad works with all the most popular email providers, including MobileMe, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, and AOL.

 

Photos

With its crisp, vibrant display and unique software features, iPad is an extraordinary way to enjoy and share your photos. For example, the Photos app displays the photos in an album as though they were in a stack. Just tap the stack, and the whole album opens up. From there, you can flip through your pictures, zoom in or out, or watch a slideshow. You can even use your iPad as a beautiful digital photo frame while it’s is docked or charging. And there are lots of ways to import photos: You can sync them from your computer, download them from an email, or import them directly from your camera using the optional Apple Camera Connection Kit.
